The “International Children’s Medical Imaging Research Laboratory” Was Unveiled

Recently, the “International Children’s Medical Imaging Research Laboratory” jointly established by Southeast University, University of Birmingham and the Children's Hospital of Nanjing Medical University was officially unveiled. Wu Gang, Vice President of Southeast University, Jon Frampton, Vice President of University of Birmingham, President Huang Songmingand Vice President Mo Xuming of Children’s Hospital of Nanjing Medical University, relevant principals in charge of School of Bioscience and Medical Engineering of Southeast University and 3TMRI Center of University of Birmingham, and Representatives of medical staff of the Department of Radiology of the Children's Hospital participated in the event.

At the ceremony, an official cooperation agreement was entered into among representatives of the three parties on the future development and research direction of the joint laboratory. Professor Sun Yu from the School of Biological Science and Medical Engineering of Southeast University, Professor Andrew Peet, Director of 3TMRI Center of University of Birmingham and Director Yang Ming from the Children's Hospital were appointed as the laboratory’s three joint directors. Vice President Wu Gang pointed out in his speech that the “International Children's Medical Imaging Research Laboratory” was established by integrating strong technological advantages of Southeast University and University of Birmingham as well as the clinical advantages of the Children's Hospital. The establishment of this laboratory would promote the cultivation mode of innovative talents in such three scientific research institutes and improve the cultivation quality of high-level talents. He expected and believed that the laboratory would persist in international perspective and global standards and aim at the cutting-edge science and technology in the world to carry out more strategic, prospective and basic researches, and ultimately achieve major original results in the field of children’s imaging and health.


It is reported that the “International Children’s Medical Imaging Research Laboratory” will be dedicated to exploring and promoting the application of advanced multimodal functional magnetic resonance imaging technology to children suffering from brain tumors; designing and developing auxiliary diagnostic decision-making system on the basis of imaging big data and artificial intelligence technology for treating children’s tumors; studying the rules and interactions between individual physiological and mental development so as to provide new measures and approaches to support the development of modern brain science and neuro-education.
