On the eve of the upcoming APEC Human Resources Development Ministerial Meeting, the International (Jiangsu) Conference on the Development of Human Resources Services opened on September 20 at Nanjing International Expo Center. The conference, themed “Shaping Modern Human Resources and Promoting High-Quality Full Employment,” was hosted by the Jiangsu Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China and the Jiangsu Provincial People’s Government. Xin Changxing, Secretary of the Jiangsu Provincial Committee of the CPC; Liu Xiaotao, Governor of the Jiangsu Provincial People's Government; and Wang Xiaoping, Secretary of the Party Leadership Group and Minister of the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, attended the opening ceremony. Sun Youhong, President of Southeast University and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, attended the opening ceremony upon invitation and delivered a speech as a representative of university presidents.
At the opening ceremony, speeches were delivered successively by key leaders of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee, representatives of APEC human resources development ministers, the President of the World Employment Confederation, and key leaders of the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security. In his speech, Sun Youhong extended congratulations on behalf of Southeast University on the convening of the conference and expressed sincere gratitude to people from all sectors who have long cared about and supported the development of Southeast University. He stated that the excellence of a university lies in gathering top-tier scholars, cultivating first-class talents, and making first-class contributions. At present, as a new round of scientific and technological revolution and industrial transformation accelerates, universities should fully play their role asthe principal base for talent cultivation and the main force for scientific and technological innovation, promote the integrated development of education, science and technology, and talent, and advance the deep integration of the innovation chain, industrial chain, capital chain, and talent chain.
Focusing on the theme of the conference, Sun Youhong shared three insights from the perspective of a first-class university: First, talent is crucial to a first-class university. Second, talent cultivation is the foundation of a first-class university. Third, innovation is the soul of a first-class university. He said that shaping modern human resources requires, above all, attracting outstanding talent from all quarters and strengthening the faculty. Promoting high-quality full employment depends on understanding the needs of industry and educating people with an eye to the future. To support the development of new quality productive forces, it is important to empower industry through innovation and deeply integrate scientific and technological innovation with industrial innovation.
“Achievements are made by talent, and endeavors are expanded by talent,” Sun Youhong emphasized. The core of human resources in universities is to gather outstanding talent, cultivate new generations, and drive innovation and creativity, so as to better promote the integrated development of education, science and technology, and talent. He stated that Southeast University is willing to join hands with colleagues from all sectors to enrich the soil for talent development and help talented people fulfill their aspirations, realize their dreams, and make contributions in this era.
It is reported that the conference aims to build a platform for exchange and connection among universities, enterprises, international organizations, human resources serviceinstitutions, and government departments, promote the full-chain linkage and precise allocation of human resources supply and demand, and create an influential and distinctive international human resources exchange platform branded “Better Jiangsu, Gathering Talents”.
