The Awarding Ceremony of the 12th National College Student Information Security Contest and Network Security Talents Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Forum Was Convened in Southeast University

On August 2, the final of the 12th National College Student Information Security Contest as hosted by the Professional Teaching Steering Committee for Cyberspace Security of the Ministry of Education and China Internet Development Foundation, and undertaken by Southeast University was convened at Sipailou Campus of Southeast University. This contest has attracted nearly 2,000 college students of 499 teams from 116 universities across the country with the number of colleges involved, the number of teams and the number of participants all the highest ever.



In the morning of August 3, the contest’s awarding ceremony and the network security talents innovation and entrepreneurship education forum was convened in the auditorium. Shen Changxiang, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Honorary Director of the Professional Teaching Steering Committee for CyberspaceSecurity of the Ministry of Education, Jin Baosheng, Vice President of Southeast University, Bao Feng, Deputy Director of Jiangsu Provincial Network and Telecom Office, Zhang Sheng, Director of the Network Security Coordination Bureau of Cyberspace Administration of China, Feng Huaming, Secretary-General of the Professional Teaching Steering Committee for Cyberspace Security of the Ministry of Education and Vice President of Beijing Electronic Science and Technology Institute, and Yu Nenghai, Deputy Director of the Professional Teaching Steering Committee for Cyberspace Security of the Ministry of Education and Professor of the University of Science and Technology of China, relevant principals from the sponsoring and supporting units, the judges, the participating teacher and student representatives, over 600 people in total, participated in the awarding ceremony.

Jin Baosheng, in his addressing speech, expressed his gratitude on behalf of Southeast University to the leaders and social circles at all levels who have long been concerning about the school’s development. He introduced the achievements made by Southeast University to the guests and reviewed the development history of the School of Cyberspace Security of Southeast University. He said that the School of Cyberspace Security was established by taking advantage of the situation at the critical historical moment of the country. As “a university intending to construct the first-class cyberspace security college to be a demonstration project”, Southeast University will continue to rely on its own characteristics and give play to its advantage of resources so as to lead the industrial development through innovation, continuously upgrade the capacities for R&D in the field of cyberspace security and thus make its due contributions to the national cause of network and telecom.

Academician Shen Changxiang, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Honorary Director of the Professional Teaching Steering Committee for CyberspaceSecurity of the Ministry of Education delivered a speech in the event. He said there would be no technology without talents; just as there would be no national security without the cyberspace security, as said by General Secretary Xi Jinping. At present, the national cyberspace security is still at a critical moment because problems are still available in the teaching of basic theories and the breakthrough of core technologies, etc.. The National College Student Information Security Contest was exactly organized to solve such problems. It is hoped that such contest could stimulate the students' innovative ideas and provide the teachers with innovative opportunities. Subsequently, he announced the undertaking university of the next contest.

The final of the 12th National College Student Information Security Contest consisted of two parts: the Information Security Works Contest and the Innovation & Practice Contest. The former hosted by Southeast University has attracted nearly 2,000 college students in 499 teams from 116 universities across the country to register their participation. Upon the preliminary contest online, a total of 218 teams among others were promoted to the final for the first, second and third prizes upon judgement on the site. Eight universities including Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Southeast University and Nankai University, etc. won the “Outstanding Organization Award” in this contest. The instructors who guided the team that won the first prize would be granted the “Outstanding Instructor Award”. In addition, “The Most Innovative and Entrepreneurial Value Award” would be granted and the winning team would be qualified for participating in the final of China “Internet +” College Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Contest to be held this year.

Before the awarding ceremony of the 12th National College Student Information Security Contest, the Network Security Talents Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Forum was convened at the same venue.
