On December 15 and 16, Liuchaosong Forum of Global Alumni Entrepreneurs and the Round Table Meeting of Chairmen and Secretary-generals of Global Alumni Association, hosted by Southeast University Alumni Council, undertaken by Guangdong Provincial Southeast University Alumni Association and co-organized by the Investment Promotion Bureau of Guangzhou Development Zone, were convened in Guangzhou. Zhang Guangjun, Chairman of Southeast University Alumni Council and President of Southeast University, Huang Dawei, Executive Vice Chairman of the Alumni Council and Vice President of Southeast University, relevant comrades from the President’s Office, the Development Committee, the Alumni Council and the University Science Park joined together with over 200 excellent alumni of Southeast University including principals of almost 20 listed companies, industrial leaders and representatives of unicorn companies, chairmen, secretary-generals and representatives of more than 30 provincial and municipal alumni associations, the alumni associations in Zhuhai, Macao, Hongkong, the United States, Britain, Singapore and Australia, etc.. This conference, based on the principle of “gratitude, friendship, sharing and mutual assistance”, has provided an excellent opportunity to all members for expressing their feelings about their alma mater and discussing cooperation.
On behalf of Southeast University and the Alumni Council, President Zhang Guangjun expressed his greetings to all alumni from home and aboard who have been always concerning the alma mater’s development, and also extended his gratitude to the chairmen and secretary-generals of all alumni associations. As he said, at the critical moment of celebrating the 40th anniversary of China’s reform and opening up and the 30th anniversary of the renaming of Southeast University, when all teachers and students were facilitating the “double first-class” construction to achieve the connotation-oriented development, it was at the right time andof great significance that the alumni gathered together in Guangzhou, where China took the initiative in reform and opening up. He also pointed out that every alumnus/alumna would not only be the business card and pride of Southeast University, but the most previous asset of our alma mater. The alma mater and all alumni should be always in a community of common destiny with sharing weal and woe. In his speech, President Zhang Guangjun briefly introduced the latestprogress of “Double First-class” construction and the alumni work under concerted supports of the alumni. As stressed by him, when confronted with a new round of scientific and technological revolution, industrial transformation, new trends and challenges to higher education, in face of the new mission and new journey of national “Double First-class” construction, the alma mater is striving to realize connotative and high-quality development by restructuring the objectives, deepening the reform, inspiring the vitality, leading the development, considering the “first-class construction” as the benchmark. To this end, the alma mater particularly expects all alumni could work with the alma mater to take on the mission, achieve win-win development and “first-class” construction. First, the alumni are expected to assist the alma mater in cultivating leading talents, actively help students of Southeast University to become leading talents with great patriotism, international perspective and responsibility for leading the future and benefiting the people; secondly, the alumni are expected to assist the alma mater in building a new highland of first-class staff by actively proposing suggestions and recommending talents so as to create a sound eco-environment of talent introduction, gathering and cultivation; thirdly, the alumni are expected to assist the alma mater in forming a new pattern of open education to actively gather concerns, strength, wisdom and funds for the alma mater. Efforts shall be made to further promote the government-industry-research cooperation among the school, the alumni and the society. In the course, all alumni could deeply participate in the construction of a new, high-level and high-quality open education format. At the same time, the alma mater and the alumni associations would also endeavor to improve the connotations of alumni's work, actively concern and help the alumni in respect of their lifelong development so as to constantly enhance the sense of belonging and cohesion of the alma mater in the heart of alumni both at home and abroad. Finally, President Zhang also expected to make our due historical contributions to the social development and the progress of human beings at a higher level through the win-win cooperation between the alma mater and the alumni.
Vice-President Huang Dawei, on behalf of Southeast University, granted the “Liuchaosong Forum” and the “Meeting of Chairmen and Secretary-generals of Global Alumni Associations” flag to the organizer of this conference and Guangdong Provincial Southeast University Alumni Association.
Hong Qian, Deputy Head of Huangpu District, Guangzhou City, delivered a speech to express his warm welcome to all the alumni entrepreneurs of Southeast University to develop business at Huangpu District. Shao Jingbo, Director of the Investment Promotion Bureau of Guangzhou Development Zone introduced the investment and environmental policies of the development zone.
In this event, Zhang Baixuan, an alumnus and Vice President of China Stone, Xie Wenli, an alumnus and President of Wutong M&A Fund, delivered speeches on corporate strategic management and corporate life rules respectively. Professor Xu Kangning from the School of Economics and Management of Southeast University delivered an academic report titled “The Macroeconomic Situation under the Background of Sino-US Trade Friction”. Zhang Xiaobing, Vice President of the Scientific Research Institute of Southeast University, introduced the cooperation channels of school-enterprise scientific and technological achievements to the alumni entrepreneurs.
Five alumni including Zhang Baike, Ye Liujin, Ding Tieqi, Chen Shihong and Yang Jiangjin, focusing on the strategic management experience, four alumni including Xie Wenli, Zhu Wenjun, Lin Jiaxi and Wu Zhisen as well as Professor Xu Kangning, focusing on financial investment experience, shared their experience and interacted with the on-site alumni.
The subsequent launching ceremony of the alumni entrepreneurs’ consortium pushed the event to a climax.
At the meeting of Chairmen and Secretary-generals of Global Alumni Associations, representatives from the alumni associations in 28 regions actively expressed and exchanged their experience in practical development and put forward many operational opinions on the future work. Everyone has achieved a definite goal for the work in 2019. They expressed in succession that they would further promote the development of local alumni associations after their return, enhance the influence of the alma mater both at home and abroad to attract more outstanding students to apply for Southeast University and vigorously assist the alma mater in realizing its development goals. Meanwhile, the associations shall practically understand and indeed fulfill the alumni’s demands for development, stand out in the local economic construction and carry out the alumni work in a practical, detailed, bigger and stronger manner.
Upon discussion during the meeting, the meeting in 2019 will be undertaken by Changzhou Alumni Association of Southeast University.
