The Delegation of Medical Representatives of Southeast University Visited the Republic of Belarus for Exchanges

Thanks to the Confucius Institute at Minsk State Linguistic University in Belarus, which acted as a go-between, the delegation of four medical representatives from Zhongda Hospital affiliated to Southeast University under the leadership of Professor Sun Zilin, Deputy Dean of the School of Medicine of Southeast University and doctor of the Department of Endocrinology of Zhongda Hospital, arrived at Minsk No. 10 Municipal Clinical Hospital On November 1 to attend the 2nd Sino-Belarus Medical Forum as convened in the local area. The delegation was warmly welcomed by Dean Anovich Yala of Minsk No. 10 Municipal Clinical Hospital and related staff.

During the visit, А. П. Сиваков, Director of TCM Institute of Minsk No. 10 Municipal Clinical Hospital and President of the Belarusian Association for Continuing Medical Education, first led the delegation, Fang Ling, Dean of the Chinese Party and Татьяна Демьяненко, Dean of the Foreign Party of the Confucius Institute, etc. to visit Minsk No. 10 Municipal Clinical Hospital, especially the TCM clinic. Members of the delegation were all amazed at the scale and technical level of the TCM clinic.

In the forum, А.П.Сиваков delivered a report titled “The Development of TCM in Belarus”, which expatiated on the history and development status quo of TCM in Belarus. Professor Wang Changsong, Director of Department of TCM Internal Medicine of Zhongda Hospital delivered a report titled “The Principles and Methods of Insomnia Treatment from Yin and Yang”. In his speech, he systematically explained the symptoms and causes of insomnia and five methods of nourishing food in the treatment of insomnia, and demonstrated how to treat insomnia by simple movements. Professor Sun Zilin from the Institute of Diabetes of Southeast University gave a report titled “Education and Management of Diabetes in China”, during which, he used a series of figures to indicate the seriousness of the current diabetes situation in China; besides, he alsoshared his experience in terms of prevention and treatment of diabetes in detail. Professor Tong Jiayi, Deputy Director of the Department of Cardiology of Zhongda Hospital gave a report titled “The Status Quo  of Cardiovascular Diseases and Coronary Intervention Treatment in China”. He introduced the status quo and causes for cardiovascular diseases in the world, especially in China; besides, he also put forward effective countermeasures to diminish the hazards of cardiovascular diseases. Professor Yuan Yonggui, Director of the Department of Psychiatry of Zhongda Hospital Professor, delivered a report titled “The Development Prospect of Chinese Psychosomatic Medicine”. In his speech, he systematically introduced the history of the development of psychosomatic medicine in China and the classification system of psychosomatic-related barriers in China. He expected that the psychosomatic medicine could be listed as one of the diagnosis and treatment subjects at the medical treatment institutions in China as soon as possible.

After the report meeting, members of the delegation also answered in detail a series of questions proposed by theBelarusian doctors. Staff from Minsk No. 10 Municipal Clinical Hospital expressed in succession that this medical forum had benefited them a lot in that this forum had not only solved their long-lasting doubts, but also provided them an opportunity to understand the frontier dynamics of medical treatment, which would greatly benefit them in their future work. The arrival of this medical delegation had not only brought about the most advanced western medical knowledge to the medical workers in Belarus, but also introduced the renowned medical treatment by TCM into Belarus.

It is reported that Minsk No. 10 Municipal Clinical Hospital is one of the largest and the most advanced medical institutions in Belarus. Unlike other hospitals, this hospital opened a TCM center long ago highlighting nearly 100 TCM beds, which has solved the pain for thousands of patients, especially those rheumatism patients. The Confucius Institute at Minsk State Linguistic University has been always adhering to the philosophy of “guaranteeing the educational functions while opening up the social functions”. Thus it has also actively played a role of linkage between the two countries in addition to the teaching of Chinese. The Confucius Institute has not only maintained close contacts with Sino-Belarus enterprises to provide more opportunities of internship and employment to Belarusian students, but also invited over 20 Chinese universities to hold promotion conference on study overseas so that Belarusian students can understand Chinese schools and policies on study overseas in a more direct manner. In addition, the Confucius Institute holds the “Sino-Belarus Education Forum” regularly to promote cooperation in education between the two countries. At present, the “China-Belarus Medical Forum” has also become one of the regular activities of the Confucius Institute, which may bring China's advanced TCM technology to Belarus and thus benefit the Belarusian people.

After the forum, members of the medical delegation of Zhongda Hospital affiliated to Southeast University discussed with the doctors from Minsk No. 10 Municipal Clinical Hospital and exchanged views on how to further deepen cooperation in the medical field. Both parties expected to realize more cooperation achievements and truly achieve mutual benefits and win-win results by advantage of the “Belt and Road Initiative”.
