The Delegation of University of British Columbia in Canada Visited Southeast University

On the morning of September 24, the delegation led by Arvind Gupta, the former president of the University of British Columbia in Canada and the innovation consultant of the Canadian government, Professor Nemy Banthia from University of British Columbia, also the academician of the Canadian Academy of Sciences and the Canadian Academy of Engineering, Jennifer Jing Zhao, Deputy Director of Sino-Canada Centre for Comparative Education, Cultural and Social Affairs, etc. visited Southeast University. Wu Gang, Vice President of Southeast University, Miao Changwang, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and professor of Southeast University, relevant leaders and teachers of the International Cooperation Department and the School of Materials attended the talks.

Vice President Wu Gang firstly addressed the talks. He gave a brief introduction to the disciplinary development of Southeast University and the international cooperation between Southeast University and globally renowned universities. Professor Arvind Gupta introduced the visit purpose of Canadian delegation. He said the Canadian Party expected to deepen the cooperation with Southeast University in terms of scientific research through this visit considering the long-term cooperation and friendship between the team led by Academician Miao Changwen of Southeast University and Professor Nemy Banthia from University of British Columbia in Canada. As pointed out by Professor Arvind Gupta, efforts would be expected to facilitate the establishment of Sino-Canadian United Research Centre between Chinese research institutions represented by top Chinese universities such as Southeast University, etc. and Canadian research institutions represented by University of British Columbia, etc. so as to carry out cooperation and innovation researches in the field of civil engineering, energy and brain science, etc.. In addition, Academician Miao Changwen introduced the team’s international cooperation and relevant measures as adopted in international cooperation by Chinese universities. Afterwards both parties deepened their exchanges and discussions concerning the feasibility of developing international cooperation from different perspectives.

    It is reported that in May of this year, Wang Baoping, Deputy President of Southeast University, signed a memorandum of cooperation between Southeast University and the University of British Columbia in Canada. This visit of the Canadian delegation would mark a solid step for the two universities to conduct in-depth international cooperation.
