Professor Gao-Jun Teng from SEU received the SIR Gold Medal, 2017

March 5, 2017, Eastern time, the Society of Interventional Radiology (SIR) presented its highest honor, the SIR Gold Medal during its Annual Scientific Meeting in Washington Convention Center. Professor Gao-Jun Teng, famous interventional medical expert, president of Zhongda Hospital, Southeast University and chief physician of interventional radiology and vascular surgery, was awarded the 2017 SIR Gold Medal, becoming one of the three honorees. The current President Professor Charles E. Ray presented the award to Professor Teng. This is the first time since the establishment of the award 21 years ago that a doctor of interventiaonl radiology from mainland China received this award.

  

The Annual Gold Medal, presented by the Society of Interventional Radiology, is the highest honor in the field of interventional radiology, honoring experts who made great contribution. It was established in 1996, so far only 54 people have received this honor. Previous to this, no Chinese doctor has been selected.

  

Professor Gao-Jun Teng is the president of Zhongda Hospital, Southeast University, chair of interventional radiology and vascular surgery and also the professor and doctoral tutor of Southeast University. He is the current vice president of Chinese Society of Radiology and president of the Asia-Pacific Society of Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology. He also holds the post of deputy head of expert group of China National Health and Family Planning Commission which is responsible for the standardization of liver cancer diagnosis and treatment. Over the past 30 years, Professor Teng has been committed to the field of radiation involved in medical, scientific research, teaching practice and exploration, diligently and fruitfully. He has completed more than 20,000 cases of various types of interventional surgery, created and improved more than 10 kinds of interventional therapy of new technologies. Especially, he has made great contribution to the spine intervention, the development of new types of gastrointestinal stents and the prevention of in-stent restenosis, all of which were cutting-edge technologies. Those play a major role in promoting the establishment of the relations between CSIR and other global societies.
