Southeast University and Uppsala University Signed Cooperative Agreement

On the afternoon of December 21st, Deputy Secretary of Jiangsu Provincial Party Committee and Secretary of Nanjing Municipal Party Committee Mr. Wu Zhenglong met with visiting the Kingdom of Sweden Uppsala County Governor Mr. Goran Enander and President of Uppsala University Professor Eva Akesson and their delegation. SEU Party Committee Secretary Mr. Yi Hong and SEU President Mr. Zhang Guangjun also participated in the meeting. After the meeting, under the witness of Secretary Mr. Wu Zhenglong and Governor Mr. Enander, SEU president Mr. Zhang Guangjun and Uppsala University President Mr. Exon signed a cooperative agreement. In the meanwhile, they have both signed a letter of intent “China-Sweden Healthcare Cooperation City” With Nanjing Municipal Jiangbei New Area Administrative Committee, Swedish Healthcare Center and Zhong Rui holding group (Hong Kong) co., LTD.

  

At the symposium, Secretary Wu Zhenglong briefly introduced the economic and social development of Nanjing. According to him, healthcare industry is the strategic focus to implement Nanjing’s five new development conceptions and promote industrial transformation and upgrading, so Uppsala County and Uppsala University are warmly welcomed to cooperate with Nanjing and SEU in order to promote healthcare industry hand in hand. Mr. Goran Enander appreciated Nanjing’s science and education resources and innovation environment, and hoped that Nanjing and Uppsala could cooperate more to promote healthcare industry together. Secretary Yi Hong said that SEU is now implementing international development strategy and he believed that this signing would actively promote the development of the parties in the future with the support of government.

  

In the morning, Governor Mr. Goran Enander, Professor Mr. Akesson and their delegation paid a visit to the Sipailou Campus of SEU. President Mr. Zhang Guangjun received the delegation and gave warm welcome and sincere thanks to the Swedish guests. Mr. Zhang Guangjun pointed out that Governor Mr. Goran Enander’s visit to SEU played an active role to promote the cooperation of SEU and Uppsala University, and he hoped that SEU and Uppsala University could cooperate more under the framework agreement signed by both parties. Mr. Zhang Guangjun suggested that SEU School of Medicine and Uppsala University School of Medicine work together to explore and establish SEU China-Sweden Joint School of Medicine. He has put forward a “three-step” strategy for the cooperation—the first step is to train jointly doctoral students and graduates and exchange graduates, the second step is to establish a joint graduate college in Jiangbei New Area, and the third step is to establish SEU China-Sweden Joint School of Medicine. President Mr. Akesson highly endorsed and recognized President Mr. Zhang Guangjun’s suggestion and expressed faith and expectation to the cooperation.

  

It’s known that Uppsala Municipality, the provincial capital of Uppsala County, is located on the east coast of Sweden. It is one of the oldest cities and the fourth largest city in Sweden, and ever since 1134 it has been the center of the church of Sweden. Uppsala University is one of the four universities in Uppsala. It was established in 1477 and is the oldest university in North Europe. It has produced 9 Nobel Prize winners in history. Today, there are 9 schools teaching three areas, about 24,000 full-time students and 6,500 school staff in Uppsala University.

  

According to the agreements signed by SEU and Uppsala University, the two will promote the establishment of Joint Graduate School of Medicine. Through this cooperation, SEU will enhance research and teaching quality and improve international influence in the fields of medical science, pharmacy, biomedical engineering, life sciences and medical development.
