[SEU News Network, March 25th]
(Correspondents: Jiang Yelin, Huang Sihui) On March 15th, according to the latest discipline statistics
released by Clarivate Analytics, our university’s Computer Science
discipline ranked 7th in the world and the 2nd among

world rankings. This achievement underscores the discipline’s leading
status internationally. Since the Engineering discipline was listed top 0.01%
of the ESI world rankings in September 2020, this achievement represents another
breakthrough in advancing the development of a world-class university with Chinese
characteristics and superior disciplines.
So far, our university has had 2
disciplines listed top 0.01% of the ESI world rankings, 4 disciplines listed
top 0.1%, and 14 disciplines listed top 1%.
The Computer Science field, newly listed top
0.01% of the ESI world rankings, involves the first-level disciplines set up in
several colleges and related institutes including the School of Information
Science and Engineering, the School of Mathematics, the School of Automation,
the School of Computer Science and Engineering, and the School of Economics and
Management etc.
The
Essential Science Indicators (ESI) are recognized globally as a pivotal tool
for evaluating the international academic stature and influence of
universities, academic institutions, as well as countries and regions. Based
on a variety of metrics including the number of publications, citation
frequency, average citations per paper, highly cited papers, and papers identified
as particularly influential in their fields, ESI comprehensively measures the academic
research capabilities of countries and regions concerned, the academic
reputation of institutions, the scholarly impact of scientists, and the
academic quality of journals, all through the lens of scholarly publications.
Generally
speaking, disciplines listed top 1% of the ESI world rankings are considered outstanding
disciplines, those in the top 0.1% are deemed excellent, and those in the top
0.01% are regarded as top-notch disciplines.
