On December 6, the “Summit Forum on Next Generation Electronic Information Materials and Devices & the 3rd Symposium on Low-Dimensional Material Application and Standardization”, co-hosted by SEU and National Committee for Standardization of Nanotechnology, was convened in Wuxi, at which SEU International Innovation Center for Micro and Nano Systems was unveiled. A total of more than 500 people, including academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and the Chinese Academy of Sciences as well as other well-known experts in related fields in China, renowned scholars and representatives of teaching staff and students from Peking University, Tsinghua University, Fudan University, Nanjing University, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and other universities and research institutes, attended this event on the spot.
At the opening ceremony, Huang Qin, Secretary of CPC Wuxi Municipal Committee, said that we shall take this event as an opportunity to cooperate with all sectors and parties concerned for the peak of innovation, pool strength for the industrial leading position and join hands for deeper cooperation, so as to further enhance university-city cooperation, talents cooperation and university-industry-research cooperation. Therefore, it is of great necessity to run SEU Wuxi Campus at a high standard, construct SEU International Innovation Center for Micro and Nano Systems upon a high starting point, and build the bases for high-level personnel cultivation, high-level scientific research and high-tech achievements transformation at a faster pace.
Zhang Guangjun, President of SEU, pointed out that the material, device, technology and equipment should keep evolving from generation to generation. At present, given the rapid development in the mobile internet, flexible and wearable electronics and other fields, China is now in the critical period where a new generation of electronic information materials and devices are developing rapidly, with an increasingly urgent strategic demand for the ultra-small, ultra-fast and ultra-efficient electronic technology of the ultra-low-power consumption, and higher requirements for the properties of electronic information materials and devices.
Therefore, it is expected that the academicians and experts attending the conference shall promote the progress of the next generation of electronic information materials and devices, and provide reliable intellectual and technical support for the major development strategy of national electronic information technology through high-end and quality discussions and exchanges at this conference. Zhang Guangjun also emphasized that the time-honored and fruitful cooperation between SEU and Wuxi, strongly supported by successive CPC Wuxi municipal committees and governments, shall function as a model for open-schooling and integrated development of SEU.
Hao Yue, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Director of the Information Sciences Department of National Natural Science Foundation of China, expressed his congratulations for the conference and wished the conference a complete success via video.
Sun Litao, Dean of School of Electronic Science and Engineering and IC College of SEU, introduced SEU International Innovation Center for Micro and Nano Systems. This center was a public platform co-built by Wuxi municipal people's government and SEU, with the total investment exceeding RMB 1 billion. The center, based on the IC College of SEU, specializes in common research and development needs of integrated circuit, MEMS sensor, flexible electronics, new materials, analysis and characterization, and other fields, with the purpose of creating a comprehensive base of “government, industry, university and research” integrating talent cultivation, scientific research and industrial service, improving the talent training of microelectronics, and promoting the industrial independent technology reserve.
The center will not only witness a significant construction task for SEU Wuxi Campus, but also a symbolic achievement for the new round of strategic cooperation between Wuxi municipal people’s government and SEU.
SEU International Innovation Center for Micro and Nano Systems was unveiled by Huang Qin and Zhang Guangjun together. Afterwards, Zhang Guangjun presented the Appointment Certificate of Strategic Advisory Committee of International Innovation Center for Micro and Nano Systems to the participating academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
The forum, with the theme of “application and standard of low-dimensional materials”, gathered a number of authoritative experts and scholars in the fields of the electronic information materials, micro-nano machining electronic/photoelectric devices, electronic information system design and standardization of application, to discuss and communicate over major topics focusing on the application of new semiconductor materials in the next-generation electronic information devices, such as how to plan the layout in advance, how to promote the government-industry-research integration and how to participate in and lead relevant standards at home and abroad.
Academician Liu Zhongfan, Academician Cui Tiejun, Academician Cheng Huiming and Academician Huang Ru delivered their invited keynote speeches, with the theme of “Synthesis Challenges for Graphene Industry”, “Electromagnetic Metamaterial and Its Applications”, “Six-Membered Ring Inorganic Materials: Definition and Prospects”, and “New Development of Integrated Circuit Technology in Post-Moore Era: Discussion and Thinking” respectively.
Xu Wenwei, Director of Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. and head of Huawei Strategic Research Institute, also delivered an invited keynote speech with the theme of “Developing Root Science and Technology to Promote Innovation transformation and Leadership”. He expounded on Huawei’s successful experience in introducing the new technology of semiconductor and facilitating industrial innovation through the collaborative innovation of “system architecture + chip”, the cooperation with universities in scientific research, scene traction and joint planning.
